“The party opened with a long rest that turned into one of the campaign's most emotionally raw nights — Darren wept for the first time in his life over his mother's death while Tavaria silently held him, and Deacon made French toast at dawn to be there for his brother. The morning brought a productive skill challenge to break down and transport the golden calf, netting the party roughly 96,000 gold in unrefined bars split four ways. A meeting with Killian's replacement Gideon in the Shrouded District ended abruptly when militia burst in to arrest him for freeing Killian, though not before a white-hood coin confirmed the deal was still on. The party then made two family visits — Tavaria to her institutionalized sister Melora, who screamed at Deacon's totem and whispered cryptic warnings about broken burdens and fallen brothers, and Azquireth to his cold mother Galina, who let slip that his uncle Brant Silverblood killed King Reinhold on the first night of the Scourge. The session closed at the Grand Cathedral where Obarn Steelsworn publicly executed Gideon by guillotine, the one-eyed criminal winking at the party with his good eye before the blade fell.”
