CritSheetPre-Session Brief

Before Session 10

The Tomb of Annihilation

Previously on The Tomb of Annihilation

The party watched Doc wake up in his new grung frog body after a long haggling montage between Ord Firebeard and Niles at Camp Vengeance. On the road toward Ambala, a dying T-Rex crashed into camp with necrotic claw wounds, and the group fought off two undead hippos before the legendary Black Death itself appeared in a bubble of total silence, freezing the party with fear before vanishing. They pressed on past a corpse loaded with cursed loot and reached the cliffs below Ambala as the session closed.

The Story So Far

Six strangers bound in a bandit camp discovered the death curse is unraveling resurrection magic across Faerun, hired by the dying Syndra Sylvain to find and destroy its source deep in the southern jungle. The trail has led through Port Nyanzaru's dinosaur races and merchant princes, down the Soshenstar River through goblin ambushes and zombie sieges, and into the jungle proper toward Ambala and Orlonga. Dahc Doorblack died and was reborn as a grung named Doc via Eku's soul-trapping amulet, and the party now knows the legendary Black Death, a panther the size of a T-Rex, is active in the same territory they must cross. Undead animals are appearing along their route, suggesting the death curse's influence is spreading toward Ambala.

Open Threads

  • The Black Death appeared and vanished without engaging, and its connection to the death curse and 'the guy with the ring' remains unresolved.
  • The party has not yet reached Ambala itself, only glimpsed the plateau and cliffs at session's end.
  • Dahc promised Tariki he would return with 1,000 gold to purchase Deadly Treasure the T-Rex.
  • Kwayothé challenged the party to an honorary dinosaur race and a promised grand prize on their return, and the party still holds his gifted spear owed back to him.
  • Thrain is wearing cursed living gloves that cannot be removed and penalize dexterity checks except sleight of hand.
  • Bellathor's warning that the Soul Monger's builder now has a name and file, and that a second infernal agent has been dispatched to assist/monitor Carl, has not been followed up.
