Before Session 4
The Tomb of Annihilation
Previously on The Tomb of Annihilation…
Last time, Kaarl survived a mandatory compliance seminar in hell — complete with PowerPoint slides and a combat assessment — before rejoining the party in Port Nyanzaru for a night at the Thundering Lizard, a very drunk Zindar, and a spicy nipple cocktail. At dawn, a sober Zindar laid out the brutal truth about sea travel south: pirate ships, sea monsters, and a dragon turtle named Armag demanding 500 gold just to pass. The session closed at Golden Throne, where Thrain's pistol got a magical upgrade, Kaarl dropped 200 gold on a hot, pulsating black book of unknown origin, and the party quietly argued about charity in front of a merchant prince.
The Story So Far
Somewhere deep in the jungles south of Port Nyanzaru, a device called the Soul Monger is consuming the life force of every soul that has ever been resurrected — and resurrection magic has stopped working entirely across Faerun. Your patron, Syndra Sylvain, is dying because of it, and she's not alone. The party has spent three sessions getting their footing in Port Nyanzaru: gathering intel, gearing up, and navigating the city's merchant prince politics. The jungle is waiting, a guide named Eku is ready, and the clock on Syndra's life — and countless others — is ticking.
Open Threads
- →The party needs to finalize their route south — river via the Soshenstar or Tath, or something else entirely.
- →Kaarl's mysterious hot black book has unknown magical properties and nobody has tried to open it yet.
- →Wakanga promised to procure a hat of disguise, staff of fireballs, movable rod, and rod of the pact keeper within a week — and will be gone from Golden Throne in two days.
- →Eku was arranged as the party's guide through Jabal — she was supposed to meet the party the morning after Session 2, and that thread has been dangling.
- →Kaarl received a mission update from Bellathor himself: the Soul Monger's builder is unaware the party is coming — Bellathor clearly has his own agenda here.
- →The half-elf woman's missing father quest was refused without a contract — she's still out there, and that problem hasn't gone away.
