Orion Musk staged a fake monster attack to let Deacon, Darren, and Tavaria cut their collars off for good, ending years of Repenter servitude. As they trudged through the frozen Ruby District with rescued carriage passengers in tow, they found a trail of grinning corpses and ran straight into a massive ice-hyena creature, cutting to black mid-confrontation.

Twelve years after the Scourge, the party has spent the last several sessions uncovering that the city is literally chained between heaven and hell, that Repenter seals require an angel's handshake to activate, and that demons and angels alike walk the city in disguise. Deacon and Darren have just shed their Repenter collars permanently, severing their formal debt to the church, while Delilah's hidden nature as a spider demon and Belial's promise of a future death match with Darren remain unresolved. The Frigid Moon's blizzard has trapped the city in deepening snow, with an ice-hyena and grinning frozen dead standing between the party and the Ruby District orphanage.
